Job Description :
The incumbent works in a correctional facility for adult male offenders. She/He is responsible for directing the work of correctional sergeants and correctional officers. Incumbent works on an assigned shift as a supervisor for a specific unit/ building zone or facility under general supervision of a correctional captain. Incumbent maintains the security of the facility as well as the safety of staff and offenders while ensuring daily activities and programs proceed on schedule.

Responsibilities :
Maintains order and security of offenders in facility;
Directs subordinate staff in appropriate administration of security related operations (key control, count, shakedowns, searches, inventory, equipment maintenance, radios, security systems, etc.);
Supervises subordinate staff including selection, training, discipline (up to the reprimand level) and performance evaluations;
Provides input to supervisors on post assignments and discipline above the reprimand level;
Assists in identifying offender treatment needs and supports treatment programs;
Maintains records and write reports on offender progress, policy and procedure updates and violations of policies and procedures;
Remains alert for signs of disorder or tension;
Counsels offenders in an informal and unofficial capacity;
Provides supervisor with specific security issues and gives input into possible changes;
Directs subordinate staff regarding the maintenance and cleanliness of the facility;
Acts as a liaison between subordinate staff and other departments;
Performs related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Preferred
Experience:
Three (3) years of custody experience in a correctional institution, law enforcement or military law enforcement, and one (1) year experience as a correctional supervisor or accredited college training in a related field. Possession of a High School Diploma or a General Educational Development (GED) certificate. Successful completion of the Correctional Training Institute program or a similar training program acceptable to the Department of Correction. Willingness to undergo a background investigation.
